Description of lobbying activity
McMaster Medical School students we are advocating for increased supports for persons experiencing homelessness in Hamilton. We ask that the Hamilton City Council collaborate with public health, healthcare organizations, and shelters to integrate and expand access to harm reduction resources and supervised consumption across the shelter system. In addition, we ask that Hamilton City Council cease the criminalization of activities associated with homelessness include many of those defined under the Public Nuisance bylaw (i.e loitering, public urination, public defecation, public intoxication) as well as sleeping rough and forming and living in encampments. Appropriate responses to these activities should involve individuals trained to interact with and support underserved populations, such as community housing workers, health workers, and mental health workers in acute crises. Lastly, we ask that the Hamilton City Council declare that public washrooms and hygiene facilities are essential services and subsequently increase availability of and access to public hygiene facilities. These measures aim to mitigate the harms of a lack of stable housing and improve health and social outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Description of lobbying activity
As McMaster Medical School students we are advocating for alternative treatment options for patients with opioid use disorder as a response to the growing opioid crisis in Hamilton. We ask that the Hamilton City Council publicly support the implementation of managed opioid programs (MOPs) in Hamilton and throughout Ontario given the urgency of the opioid poisoning crisis and as part of the continuum of care for opioid use disorder. We ask that the Hamilton City Council write a letter to the Honourable Christine Elliott, Ontario Minister of Health for the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC), in support of the following items:
Add injectable opioid agonist therapy medications at their required concentrations (50 milligrams/milliliters and 100 milligrams/milliliters hydromorphone) to the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary for the treatment of opioid use disorder and ensure the accessibility of these medications to individuals with opioid use disorder; Seek authority from Health Canada to import diacetylmorphine (pharmaceutical heroin) for use as a managed opioid program medication in Ontario; and Ensure that managed opioid medications are universally accessible to all Ontarians who could benefit from these kinds of programs, and that cost is not a barrier. We ask that Hamilton City Council, similar to Toronto, send a letter of support for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to advocate for increased funding and action towards the implementation of MOPs in Hamilton and elsewhere in Ontario to mitigate the harms of injection drug use and improve health and social outcomes for individuals with opioid use disorder.

Description of lobbying activity
C&W is acting as real estate agent on behalf of Toboggan Flats (Toboggan Living Inc.) which is a Co-Living concept seeking to rapidly repurpose vacant office space into affordable housing for young professionals while revitalizing urban cores. C&W & Toboggan Flats wish to speak with the City about leasing underutilized office space owned by the City or 3rd party owners / landlords in the city which may meet the repurposing criteria.
Additional Details:
- Repurpose vacant floors in downtown office spaces to co-living units for young professionals
- Adaptive reuse of existing buildings allows construction in a fraction of the time of typical office to residential conversion projects and in a more environmentally sustainable manner than new construction via reutilization of the building & systems
- Seeks to address the cost of living & housing crises by providing cost effective co-living opportunities
- Existing office buildings / spaces (full buildings ideally, but will consider repurposing space with existing office tenancy)
- Minimum of 30,000 SF of contiguous vacancy
- B&C class buildings (although depending on cost, A class will be considered)
- Ideal properties have windows on all 4 sides of the building
- Toboggan to enter into long term (10-15 year) leases providing stable cash flow for landlords

Description of lobbying activity
I am lobbying the Mayor of Hamilton about city taxes and real estate and property.. I want to lobby that people in Hamilton should not have unknown people paying someone else's taxes and then gaining access to getting insurance policies with legal insurance on a property they do not own in order to sue people for them having to pay taxes for a tax arrear certificate. If a property has a certificate of ongoing litigation, and the city knows of legal disputes in regards to who owns the property then why would the city of Hamilton put a tax arrears certificate on a property that has a certificate of ongoing litigation on it . How can the city sell a property in tax arrears when they do not know who owns the property. Plus the city would not not know who to be sending the documents of the certificate of tax arrears to.
Why would the city of Hamilton allow people to change the address the taxes are going to and prevent those who are in legal proceeding from knowing that the city of Hamilton registered a tax arrears on a property and this is hidden from the people involved in the certificate of pending litigation.
What is there to protect people from Hamilton from constant civil proceedings that cost tax payers because someone paid for someone taxes without asking permission to do so. and is suing over again and putting liens on elderly people because they paid property tax without getting permission to do so.
