11th Annual Sexual Health Network Parenting Workshop: Keeping your Child or Teen Safe Online
March 30, 2016 – Hamilton, ON – Hamilton parents and caregivers are invited to attend a free parenting workshop organized by Public Health Services in partnership with the Sexual Health Network called Keeping your Child or Teen Safe Online on Tuesday, April 5. The workshop will focus on:
- promoting digital literacy including how to protect your privacy
- how to do a safe search
- how to track and block searches
- learning what a digital footprint is and why it matters
- how social media can affect emotional wellbeing
While the internet offers many advantages and opportunities, it has the potential to cause harm. It is important for parents and youth to learn how to safely use the tools of the online world. Our children learn to access social media early on in their lives, but many never learn the skills that will ensure their digital literacy will allow for positive interactions to rule their choices. Parents protect their children from so many possible dangers, but forget that without proper learning, the digital world can hold dangers as well. This workshop will educate parents on how to keep their children safe and connected.
