City of Hamilton By-Law provides time-saving Enforcement process for illegally parked vehicles
Hamilton, ON – February 8, 2016 – The City of Hamilton has enacted a Parking By-law No.16-009 that introduces a new way of enforcing vehicles illegally parked on boulevards, as well as front and side yards of private properties.
The by-law that Hamilton City Council passed on January 20, 2016 had already been established in the City of Hamilton; however, a new process is now in places that allows for greater efficiency and effectiveness around enforcement.
Previously, vehicles found illegally parked on boulevards, front or side yards, were enforced under the Zoning By-law. Processing infractions was time consuming for City staff and in many cases took up to a year to resolve, especially if cases proceeded through the Courts.
Under the newly enacted by-law, Parking Control Officers will be able to issue parking tickets automatically for violations in the amount of $100.
Selected special event areas exempted
While Parking Control Officers try to use discretion during all Special Events, the areas around Tim Hortons Field and Winona Peach Festival have been given specific time exemptions and parking is allowed four hours before an event starts until two hours after an event has ended. This by-law does not apply to rural or agricultural properties.
