CityHousing Hamilton Receives Provincial Social Housing Apartment Retrofit Program (SHARP) Funding
HAMILTON, ON – December 1, 2016 – CityHousing Hamilton (CHH) has been awarded $7.1M through the Social Housing Apartment Retrofit Program (SHARP) for energy retrofits of social housing high-rise apartment towers of 150 units or more. The SHARP funds are part of the province’s $325M Green Investment Fund.
It is anticipated that projects funded under SHARP will receive an additional $1.8M in incentives, based on current Horizon Utilities and Union Gas programs, enabling total projects of nearly $9M to be completed. The funding will allow CHH to help address urgent capital needs and improve long-term sustainability of its buildings, while also reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
“This investment from the province will enable CityHousing Hamilton to make a significant reduction in energy consumption, increasing the financial stability of the organization while also lessening the environmental impact of our buildings” said Councillor Chad Collins.
The projects will include building automation, ventilation and lighting upgrades across thirteen sites, which are expected to provide over $1M in annual energy savings to the organization.
