Hamilton Firefighters Remain at the Scene of an Early Morning Fire
HAMILTON, ON – November 16, 2016 – Hamilton firefighters remain at the scene of a structure fire in a commercial building, on the City’s mountain, extinguishing hotspots beneath collapsed areas of the building.
At approximately 4:33 am this morning, the Hamilton Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire in a building located at 388 Concession Street, Oasis Family Restaurant. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and fire conditions in the rear of the structure. The alarm was then upgraded to a multiple alarm bringing additional fire crews to the scene.
Crews entered the building but were forced to withdraw due the structural instability of the roof. Shortly after firefighters withdrew from the building, a portion of the roof collapsed.
No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at approximately $550,000. Due to the extensive fire damage, the Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
