Home heavily damaged in afternoon fire
HAMILTON, ON – March 28, 2016 - Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 44 Cameron Drive, Ancaster at approximately 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. Upon arrival firefighters found the occupants outside of the house and confirmed a well involved fire with heavy smoke showing from the rear of this one storey detached house.
A multiple alarm was dispatched to the location to assist in firefighting operations and to check neighbouring homes for any electrical issues. Crews entering the home found a well involved fire in the attic and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after an aggressive interior attack with no fire spread to the neighbouring homes.
Damage to the home is extensive and has been estimated at approximately $650,000. The Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified of this fire due to the large dollar loss. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature with Horizon Utilities on the scene continuing their investigation. Due to the heavy fire and water damage the house is uninhabitable and the occupants will be staying with family.
