Statement by Mayor Fred Eisenberger on the passing of John Mykytyshyn
HAMILTON, ON - It is with sadness we learned of the passing of former Town of Dundas councillor, John Mykytyshyn.
John served on council for the Town of Dundas beginning in 1985 for six years. In addition to his community service career, John was a lifetime member of the Dundas Lions Club and recipient of the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellowship award. John served as President of the Hamilton Hotel and Motel Association before becoming the President of The Ontario Hotel and Motel Association.
John was a true family man and gave back to his community whenever possible. John was also the driving force in fundraising for and creating the Taras Shevchenko Home For The Aged where he proudly served as president from 1983-2020.
Predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Alice, and son Walter, John passed away peacefully in his 89th year. John leaves behind his fiancé of nine years, Jenny Okrainetz, his six children, Darlene (Mike), John, Linda (Alex), Donna, Kathy, and Ross, along with his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

His family business, The Golden Valley Inn, was a staple in Dundas and ensured anyone who walked through the doors were treated as family. My sincere condolences to John’s family, friends and loved ones on his passing. He will be missed.”
