Teenage boy rescued this afternoon at Spencer Creek Dundas
HAMILTON, ON – April 13, 2016 – The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a person who had fallen into Spencer Creek located behind 39 Market Street South, Dundas at approximately 3:25 pm this afternoon.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that there was one teenage male who had fallen into Spencer Creek and was able to grasp onto to a concrete retaining wall approximately 10 ft. from where he had entered the water. Because of the patient’s location the Hamilton Fire Department Marine and Rope Rescue teams were dispatched to this call.
The Marine unit was deployed downstream as a precaution if the patient re-entered the water and the rope rescue was set up as the patient was required to be lifted 20 ft. to safety. A firefighter/rescuer was lowered to the patient who was secured, packaged and raised to the top of the retaining wall. The patient was placed in the care of paramedics and transported to hospital.
During this time of year the Hamilton Fire Department would like to remind all citizens to use extra caution around fast moving waterways. Citizens are asked to stay away from shore lines and keep their animals on leashes when walking in areas of rapidly moving water. Safety is all our responsibility.
